A briefing on 'The International Human Rights Framework: Opportunities and Challenges for Indigenous Peoples' will take place next week in New York. The event is organised by ISHR.

The briefing is an opportunity to discuss ways in which indigenous peoples can engage effectively with the international human rights system, including with the treaty bodies, the special procedures of the Human Rights Council, and the Universal Periodic Review (UPR).

Panellists will include:

  • Mattias Åhrén, President, Saami Council
  • Joshua Cooper, Director, Hawai'i Institute for Human Rights
  • Les Malezer, Chairperson, FAIRA - Foundation for Aboriginal and Islander Research Action

The discussion will by facilitated by Michelle Evans, ISHR's representative to the UN in New York.

It will be held from 1.15pm to 2.45pm on Tuesday 15 May. The venue is the Church Center to the UN, 10th floor, cnr. of 44th and 1st Ave.
