Human Rights Monitor 2007 article on human rights developments at the 62nd session of the General Assembly.

The 62nd session of the General Assembly saw a number of important achievements for human rights, including the adoption of a historic resolution on the moratorium of the use of the death penalty, and the unanimous decision to create a Special Representative of the Secretary-General on violence against children. Despite a continuing mistrust of country resolutions by a majority of the membership, four such resolutions were ultimately adopted, with the human rights situations in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), Belarus, Myanmar, and Iran drawing international attention and concern.
